Glasses Sitting Crooked? Free Frame Adjustments Near Auburn, Granville and Parramatta

DTDr Zobaida Tahiri·March 2026·4 min read

Glasses that do not sit properly are more than just uncomfortable. Poorly aligned frames cause your lenses to sit at the wrong angle relative to your eyes, which can lead to distorted vision, headaches, and eye strain, even if your prescription is perfectly correct.

At Prime Optometrists Auburn, we offer free frame adjustments to anyone in the Auburn area and surrounding Western Sydney suburbs. Whether you bought your glasses from us or elsewhere, come in and we will straighten them up.

Signs Your Glasses Need Adjusting

Many people wear poorly fitting glasses for months without realising the issue is mechanical rather than optical. Common signs that your frame needs adjustment include:

  • One lens sits higher than the other when you look in the mirror
  • The frame slides down your nose repeatedly throughout the day
  • Pressure marks or soreness behind one or both ears
  • Red marks or indentations on the bridge of your nose from the nose pads
  • The glasses feel tighter on one side than the other
  • Headaches after prolonged wear that disappear when you take your glasses off
  • Blurred or distorted vision despite a current prescription

Any of these symptoms can often be fixed in a few minutes with a simple adjustment. There is no charge, and no appointment is required.

What Happens During a Frame Adjustment?

Frame adjustments are done by hand using professional frame-heating tools and adjustment pliers. Depending on the issue, we may:

  • Apply gentle heat to soften a plastic or acetate frame so it can be reshaped
  • Adjust the temple arms inward or outward to change the grip behind your ears
  • Reposition nose pads to change how the frame sits on the bridge of your nose
  • Bend the temple tips to alter the angle at which the frame rests on your ears
  • Tighten or replace screws that are causing the frame to flex unevenly

Most adjustments take between five and fifteen minutes. You leave with glasses that sit correctly and feel comfortable.

A Note on Older Frames

We do need to be honest with you about one situation. If your glasses frame is several years old, or if it has been repaired before, the material may have become brittle or fragile. Plastic frames in particular can become dry and inflexible over time, especially if they have been left in a hot car, cleaned with harsh chemicals, or just worn daily for several years.

When we apply heat or pressure to a frame in this condition, there is a real risk it can snap, even with careful technique. This is not a reflection of how the adjustment was done. It is simply the frame reaching the natural end of its lifespan.

We will always inspect your frame first and let you know honestly if we have concerns about its condition. We will do our best to help, but we cannot guarantee the outcome on frames that are aged, brittle, or already showing stress fractures.

What If My Frames Need Replacing?

If your frame has reached the point where adjustment is not reliable or the frame snaps during the attempt, we stock a wide range of frames at the clinic. We are an independent optometry practice, not a franchise, which means we select frames based on quality and value rather than a chain's buying agreements.

If you have private health fund optical extras, your benefit can be claimed on the spot via HICAPS. We also offer no-gap glasses options for patients with optical extras cover. Read more in our guide: Does Medicare Cover Glasses or Contact Lenses in Australia?
