What We Can Help With

Most everyday eyewear issues can be attended to quickly at our clinic. Common repairs and adjustments we provide include:

  • Tightening loose screws in hinges and temples
  • Replacing missing frame screws
  • Straightening bent temple arms
  • Adjusting nose pads for a better fit and comfort
  • Reshaping frames that have been sat on or knocked out of alignment
  • General fit adjustments so the frame sits correctly on your face

If you purchased your frames from us, these services are always included as part of your ongoing care. If you bring in frames purchased elsewhere, we are still happy to help where we can.

What About Older or Damaged Frames?

This is something we want to be upfront about. Glasses frames age over time. Plastic frames become brittle, metal frames develop stress fractures at the hinges, and acetate frames can lose their flexibility after years of daily wear and heat exposure.

When a frame is already under structural stress, any adjustment, however gentle, can cause it to snap. This is not something the repair attempt causes. It is a sign that the frame was already at the end of its life. We see this fairly regularly with frames that are three or more years old or have been repaired before.

We will always assess your frame before attempting any repair or adjustment. If we can see that the frame is fragile or brittle, we will let you know honestly before we proceed. We cannot guarantee outcomes for frames that are several years old, show signs of previous breaks, or are visibly stressed at the hinges or bridge. We will do our best, but we want you to understand the risk before we attempt it.

Signs Your Frame May Be Past Repair

As a general guide, the following signs suggest that adjustment or repair may not hold, and that a new frame may be the more reliable solution:

  • Visible cracks or stress marks near the hinges or bridge
  • Hinges that feel loose again shortly after tightening
  • A frame that returns to a crooked position after adjustment
  • Plastic that appears dry, faded, or has lost its original colour
  • A previous break that was glued or repaired at home
  • Frames that are three or more years old and have been worn daily

If your frame is at this point, the most reliable solution is usually a new frame. The good news is that your current lenses may be transferable into a new frame, depending on the prescription and condition of the lenses, which can reduce the overall cost.

Using Your Health Fund for New Frames

If your frames do need replacing, your private health fund optical extras cover can significantly reduce the cost. We have HICAPS on-site, so your claim is processed instantly at the time of purchase. No forms, no receipts, no waiting for a refund.

We also offer no-gap glasses options for patients with optical extras cover. This means some frame and lens combinations are available at zero out-of-pocket cost when you use your health fund benefit. Ask us at the clinic for details.
