Your Independent Optometrist in Auburn NSW: A Different Kind of Eye Care

DTDr Zobaida Tahiri·March 2026·5 min read

Auburn has no shortage of places to buy glasses. What it has far fewer of is a genuinely independent optometry clinic staffed by a clinician with advanced therapeutic qualifications who can do more than write a prescription and show you a frame display.

Prime Optometrists at 43 Auburn Road is that clinic. This article explains what we do, how we differ from chain and franchise optometrists, and why the distinction matters for your long-term eye health.

What Does Independent Mean in Practice?

Chain optometrists operate under a business model that connects frame and lens retail to the clinical consultation. In some cases, that means staff have sales targets alongside clinical responsibilities. In an independent clinic, the only objective is the clinical one.

We are not affiliated with any frame manufacturer, lens brand, or optical retail group. We choose our frame and lens range based on quality and value for our patients, not because a supplier agreement requires us to stock a particular brand. And we will never recommend glasses, lenses, or contact lenses you do not need.

About Dr Zobaida Tahiri

Dr Zobaida Tahiri holds a Master of Clinical Optometry from the University of New South Wales and is a therapeutically endorsed optometrist, the highest qualification level available in Australian optometry. Therapeutic endorsement means she is qualified to:

  • Prescribe and administer therapeutic eye drops
  • Manage ocular infections, anterior segment disease, and red eye presentations
  • Perform procedures such as foreign body removal under topical anaesthesia
  • Co-manage complex cases with ophthalmologists
  • Provide emergency ocular care

Most optometrists in Australia hold a Bachelor of Vision Science and perform routine refractions and referrals. Therapeutic endorsement requires additional postgraduate qualifications and opens a much wider scope of clinical practice.
