Best driving sunglasses Australia Auburn NSW

Driving into the rising or setting sun, navigating wet roads with blinding reflections, or emerging from a tunnel into bright afternoon light,Australian driving conditions create genuine vision challenges that appropriate sunglasses directly address. The right pair reduces accident risk, decreases visual fatigue, and improves reaction time in high-glare conditions.

Polarised Lenses for Driving,Benefits and Limitations

Polarised lenses are highly effective at eliminating glare from flat horizontal surfaces,a wet road, a river, a car bonnet. They are the preferred choice for driving in rain or on roads with surface water. However, there are two important limitations to understand:

  • LCD screens: Polarised lenses can make some LCD displays difficult or impossible to read at certain angles, including some GPS units and vehicle instrument panels. Check compatibility with your vehicle before committing to polarised driving lenses.
  • Photochromic (transition) lenses don't work behind windscreens: Photochromic lenses darken in response to UV. Windscreens block most UV, so transition lenses remain nearly clear while driving, providing little sun protection in the car despite being dark outside it.

Best Lens Tints for Driving

  • Grey: Neutral colour rendition, traffic lights and brake lights appear as their true colours. Good all-round choice. Polarised grey is excellent for most driving conditions.
  • Brown/amber: Enhances contrast and depth perception. Particularly good in variable light (partly cloudy) conditions. Can make traffic signal colours appear slightly different,a consideration for some drivers.
  • Yellow: Very high contrast enhancement in low-light or overcast conditions. Not appropriate for bright-sun driving. Some night driving glasses use yellow tints, with limited evidence of benefit.

Night Driving and Anti-Glare Coatings

Anti-reflective (AR) coating on clear lenses significantly reduces glare from oncoming headlights and street lights for night driving,a separate but related issue. If you are finding night driving difficult, AR coating on your regular prescription glasses is the most evidence-based intervention.
