What Are FL-41 Glasses
A precision tint, not a pair of sunglasses
FL-41 is a rose-amber tinted lens engineered to filter the 480 to 520nm blue-green wavelength band. This is the spectral range that clinical research has identified as the primary driver of light-triggered migraine and photophobia. The tint is distinct from generic blue-light glasses, which filter wavelengths below 450nm and are not designed for migraine management.
In the retina, a specialised group of cells known as intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) contain the photopigment melanopsin, which is maximally sensitive to 480nm blue-green light. In migraine sufferers, the pathway from these cells to pain-processing areas of the brain is believed to be sensitised, making ordinary levels of fluorescent office light, screen light, or outdoor light capable of triggering an attack.
FL-41 glasses are not designed to be worn outdoors as sunglasses. Dark lenses worn indoors can paradoxically worsen photophobia over time. FL-41 removes the specific triggering wavelength while allowing comfortable vision in typical indoor Melbourne environments including offices, retail spaces, and public transport environments with fluorescent lighting.

480 to 520nm wavelength filtered. Clinically studied for migraine and photophobia.

FAQ
Melbourne patient questions
Can Melbourne patients order FL-41 migraine glasses online?
Yes. Melbourne patients in the CBD, inner suburbs, and across regional Victoria can order FL-41 migraine glasses online at primeoptometrists.com.au/shop. Orders are delivered free via Australia Post Standard. Prescription orders are reviewed by Dr Zobaida Tahiri, AHPRA-registered therapeutically endorsed optometrist, before dispatch.
How long does delivery to Melbourne take?
Glasses are typically ready within 1 to 5 business days from order. Australia Post Standard delivery to Melbourne metro then takes approximately 2 to 4 business days. Regional Victoria may take a further 1 to 2 business days. Express delivery is available at checkout if you need your glasses sooner.
Can Melbourne patients use their health fund for FL-41 glasses?
Prescription FL-41 glasses may attract a rebate through optical extras on most major Australian health funds, including Medibank, Bupa, HCF, NIB, and GMHBA. After dispatch, we email a full tax invoice that you can submit directly through your health fund app. The rebate amount depends on your specific level of optical cover.
Do I need to visit a clinic in person for FL-41 glasses?
No in-person visit is required to order online. Melbourne patients can order at primeoptometrists.com.au/shop and have glasses delivered to their door. If you would prefer an in-person assessment, you are welcome to travel to our Auburn NSW clinic. Alternatively, booking a telehealth chat prior to ordering is available on request.
What makes FL-41 different from blue-light glasses available in Melbourne optical stores?
FL-41 glasses filter the 480 to 520nm blue-green wavelength band, the range clinical research has identified as the primary trigger for migraine-related photophobia. Standard blue-light glasses commonly sold in Melbourne optical shops filter wavelengths below 450nm, addressing screen flicker rather than migraine-specific photosensitivity. FL-41 is a distinct, clinically studied tint not widely stocked in general optical retail.
Are FL-41 glasses available with a prescription for Melbourne patients?
Yes. We offer FL-41 lenses in prescription (single vision, lens indices 1.50, 1.60, and 1.67) and non-prescription formats. Melbourne patients can enter their prescription details securely at checkout, or upload a photo of their current prescription card. All prescription orders are reviewed by our optometrist before dispatch.
