What Are FL-41 Glasses
Precision wavelength filtering, not sunglasses
FL-41 is a precision rose-amber tint calibrated to filter the 480 to 520nm blue-green wavelength band. Clinical research has identified this spectral range as the primary driver of light-triggered migraine and photophobia, through its activation of intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) that project to pain-processing pathways in the brain.
FL-41 glasses are distinct from generic blue-light glasses, which target wavelengths below 450nm. FL-41 is specifically calibrated for the migraine-relevant wavelength band. Evidence suggests that wearing FL-41 glasses may help reduce migraine frequency and photophobia severity in susceptible individuals, particularly in indoor environments with fluorescent lighting or high screen exposure.
FL-41 glasses are not sunglasses and are not intended for driving in bright sunlight. Wearing dark lenses indoors can paradoxically worsen light sensitivity over time. FL-41 removes the specific triggering wavelength while maintaining comfortable ambient vision in typical indoor environments, including Brisbane CBD offices, retail environments, and clinical settings.

480 to 520nm wavelength filtered. Clinically studied for migraine and photophobia.

FAQ
Brisbane and Queensland patient questions
Can Brisbane patients order FL-41 migraine glasses online?
Yes. Brisbane patients and those across Queensland, including the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, and regional Queensland, can order FL-41 migraine glasses online at primeoptometrists.com.au/shop. Orders are delivered free via Australia Post Standard. Prescription orders are reviewed by Dr Zobaida Tahiri, AHPRA-registered therapeutically endorsed optometrist, before dispatch.
How long does delivery to Brisbane take?
Glasses are typically ready within 1 to 5 business days from order. Australia Post Standard delivery to Brisbane metro then takes approximately 2 to 4 business days. Regional Queensland may take 3 to 7 business days depending on location. Express delivery is available at checkout.
Does bright Queensland sunlight worsen migraines and light sensitivity?
For many migraine and photophobia sufferers in Queensland, the high ambient light levels and strong UV typical of the subtropical climate can be a significant environmental trigger. FL-41 glasses are designed for indoor use in fluorescent and screen-heavy environments, where the blue-green wavelength is concentrated. For outdoor use in bright Queensland sunlight, a quality sunglass lens is more appropriate. If you suffer from light sensitivity both indoors and outdoors, your optometrist can discuss both options.
Are prescription FL-41 glasses available for Brisbane and Queensland patients?
Yes. We offer FL-41 lenses in prescription (single vision, lens indices 1.50, 1.60, and 1.67) and non-prescription formats. Brisbane patients can enter their prescription details securely at checkout or upload a photo of their prescription card. All prescription orders are reviewed by Dr Zobaida Tahiri before dispatch.
Can Queensland patients claim FL-41 glasses through their health fund?
Prescription FL-41 glasses may attract a rebate through optical extras on most major Australian health funds. After dispatch, we email a full tax invoice that Queensland patients can submit through their health fund app or portal. The rebate depends on your specific level of optical cover. Common funds accepted by our invoice system include Medibank, Bupa, HCF, NIB, and CBHS.
Can I visit the clinic instead of ordering online?
Brisbane patients are welcome to travel to our Auburn NSW clinic for an in-person consultation with Dr Zobaida Tahiri. Auburn is approximately a 90-minute flight from Brisbane, and the clinic is a short walk from Auburn train station. A comprehensive eye exam is bulk billed under Medicare for eligible cardholders.
