Why are my pharmacy reading glasses not working well?
Over-the-counter reading glasses use equal power in both lenses (e.g. +1.50 each eye). If your eyes have different prescriptions, any astigmatism, or your pupillary distance differs from the standard, they will not focus correctly and can cause headaches and eye strain.
What is the difference between reading glasses and computer glasses?
Reading glasses are optimised for close distances (typically 30 to 40cm). Computer or occupational lenses are optimised for intermediate distances (50 to 70cm) or provide a range covering both reading and screen use.
I only need reading glasses. Do I still need an eye test?
Yes. A prescription for reading glasses should be based on a proper refraction. We also check eye health at the same appointment. The test is bulk billed under Medicare for eligible patients.
Can I claim reading glasses on my health fund?
