Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I come in without an appointment?

Yes. Call (02) 9761 0005 first so we can prepare for your arrival. For urgent presentations, calling ahead ensures we can see you immediately.

When should I go to hospital instead?

Go directly to Auburn Hospital emergency if you have a high-velocity impact (nail gun, compressed air), visible wound on the eye, sudden vision loss, or fluid leaking from the eye.

What is a rust ring and why does it matter?

When iron or steel embeds in the cornea it oxidises within hours, depositing iron oxide into surrounding tissue. This rust ring must be removed separately using a corneal burr. Same-day treatment avoids rust ring formation.

Is foreign body removal bulk billed?

The initial eye examination is bulk billed under Medicare for eligible patients. The removal procedure may carry a separate clinical fee depending on complexity, discussed with you before treatment.
